Beware of this costly mistake in the farm feed mixer

When reviewing the feed mix we find several errors, and the consequence is typically expensive in the form of high feed consumption, diarrhea or low meat percentage.

The following is an example of mixing errors that we have found in recent months.

SOYA

Major diarrhea problems in the piglets gave rise to errors in the lactation mix.

We sampled several feed samples of the die mix and the analyzes revealed large fluctuations in protein content of over 20 percent.

Silo control was carried out on soybean consumption, which showed that soybean consumption was higher than planned consumption.

The weighing cells at the mixer were checked and they worked perfectly.

Failure dosage of soybean was revealed in the long transport plant from silo to the mixing plant. Here, a larger residual soybean residue was left, which was then mistakenly dosed in the next mixture.

The conveyor system was redone and the order of the raw materials in the mixture intake was corrected. After these adjustments, the diarrhea of the piglets has disappeared and the weaning weight is rising again.

FEED ANALYSIS AND SILO CONTROL REVEALS MIXER ERRORS

If there is a suspicious decline in productivity, it should be a matter of course to check the feed mix for errors.

At least twice a year, the mixing plant should be checked for mixing errors, as a feed failure can cost dearly in the form of low production results and disease in the herd.
